Celtics center Kendrick Perkins phoned in to Sports Radio 610 KILT in Houston this week to talk about his upcoming youth basketball camp at his old stomping grounds of Clifton J. Ozen High and provided an update on his health:

“I’m feeling good," Perkins told the station. "I’m actually at the gym right now getting PT. I’m in physical therapy right now, but just taking it one day at a time, just trying to get stronger, and it’s coming along real well. I’m just trying to take it slow, but take it one day at a time.”

Perkins noted during the call he's bringing in former teammate Sam Cassell to run the camp, while current teammates Rajon Rondo and Nate Robinson will be among the NBA stars in attendance to both talk to and guide the 200 campers.

One of the more interesting notes, was Perkins' take on missing out on being apart of Team USA this offseason. Before the injury, he was scheduled to join Rondo as part of those trying out for this year's squad. Perkins even referenced the reports out of New Zealand about potentially recruiting him to join its national team.

"I think I had a good shot at making [Team USA], honestly, with a lot of guys not playing for us, like Dwight Howard," said Perkins, who suggested he might have even found a starting role with a lack of bigs. "But the injury happened, so things happen. My dad being a New Zealand citizen for the last 20-something years, there was a big write-up about me playing for New Zealand. If things didn't work out for the USA team, I had a lot of options. My first priority is to get my knee right, get back on the court, and, after next season, hopefully play on another Olympic team or tryout for it."
