LOS ANGELES -- Miami's James Jones stole the show in the 3-point shootout, registering 20 points in the final round to top Boston teammates Paul Pierce (18) and Ray Allen (15) and win the event as part of All-Star weekend at the Staples Center.

Pierce was kicking himself for missing a pair of money balls in the final round, one of which would have ensured at least a tie.

"I came close," said Pierce. "One shot away from pulling a tie off. But James was the better man today and I had a lot of fun."

Allen scorched the floor in the first round, topping the field with 20 points of his own as both he and teammate Paul Pierce (12) advanced to the final round of the competition. Pierce needed to make his final three shots, including a buzzer-beating money ball, just to advance to the finals.

Jones made 16 shots in the first round to advance, then dominated after Pierce set the bar high to open the final round.

"For me, it's something I'm comfortable with," Jones said of his low-profile status. "I prefer for other guys to get all of the attention and I prefer to sit in the corner silently and punish teams. It's a very familiar territory. I'm not the superstar on my team, but I know I'm an integral piece and guys like myself help teams win."
