BOSTON -- Celtics guard Ray Allen will miss his fourth consecutive game due to a sore right ankle on Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz.
Allen went through shootaround Wednesday morning, but still didn't feel game-ready, so the team will now eye Friday's visit to Minnesota as a potential return date.
"He went through shootaround today and just didn’t feel right," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "So we’re hoping for Friday."
Rivers said previously that Allen underwent an MRI this past weekend and that it was negative. The four consecutive games are the most Allen has missed in a Boston uniform, however. So is Rivers concerned, particularly about an ankle that's bothered Allen multiple times this season?
"I’m not that concerned by it," Rivers said before quipping, "Hell, I wouldn’t know anyway. There's no reason for me to worry about an injury -- we've had a lot of them this year. He’ll be fine, I think. We just hope it doesn’t become one of those things that lingers, where he plays a couple games, then has to sit out a couple. I don’t see that happening -- but honestly, I don't have the knowledge to know that."
Avery Bradley is back in the starting lineup and Rivers likes the defensive boost it gives the first unit, which in turn has aided the offense.
"It’s been good," said Rivers. "I like Avery-Rondo and I like the [Mickael] Pietrus-Rondo, just because of the defensive presence [in the backcourt]. We just hope that, offensively, they can make enough shots to keep everybody honest. And Avery, with his cutting that he’s been doing, I kid him all the time, ‘Eventually, they are going to guard you. Right now they still kinda help off you and until they want to play you honest, keep making them pay for it.'"
Rivers said there is no update on Pietrus, who is still waiting to begin concussion testing after last Friday's injury scare. The team has not set a timetable for his return and are bringing him back slowly after the scary incident in Philadelphia.
