The Boston Celtics have rescinded their qualifying offer to center Greg Stiemsma, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to his agent.

Stiemsma had already agreed to an offer sheet with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was prepared to sign as a restricted free agent. This move by the Celtics simply acknowledges that Boston was going to be unable to match Minnesota's offer sheet and frees Stiemsma to negotiate without the hindrance of the restricted free agency process.

There's no timeline now for Stiemsma to ink a deal with Minnesota, but a handshake agreement remains in place. Stiemsma on Twitter acknowledged that Tuesday writing, "I'm very grateful to the Celtics and the city of Boston, but I'm very excited to be the newest member of the Minnesota Timberwolves."
