The Boston Celtics formally announced the release of training camp invites Micah Downs and Rob Kurz on Friday, officially trimming their roster to the opening-day capacity of 15 players.

The pair had not been spotted at practice this week and the announcement had been expected, particularly after Kris Joseph was told after Wednesday's practice he had made the 15-man roster. It will be interesting to see if either Downs or Kurz lands with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League.

Both Downs and Kurz were long shots to make the roster, particularly after the Celtics signed veteran Leandro Barbosa last week to add depth at the guard position. Both players had nice moments in camp, particularly Downs, whose play deserves to catch the attention of another squad (whether it's in the NBA or overseas).
