ORLANDO -- Rapid reaction after the Boston Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers 76-74 during Day 3 of the Orlando Summer League on Tuesday at the Amway Center:
THE NITTY GRITTY
Celtics rookie Kelly Olynyk continues to use the summer league to announce his presence in the NBA. Olynyk scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-19 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and four assists over 30 minutes. He was a team-best plus-15 in plus/minus. Swingman Tony Mitchell had another strong start for Boston, registering 15 points and five rebounds, while Phil Pressey cut down the turnovers (2) and had another solid outing with 11 points and five assists off the bench. A SUMMER NAIL-BITER (IF THERE'S SUCH A THING)
The Pacers rallied late from a double-digit deficit to tie the game at 74 in the final minute. The Celtics gave the ball to Olynyk on the blocks, but he was short on a little hook. Boston got a defensive stop and Pressey was fouled with 10.8 seconds to play. He made both freebies and Indiana's Donald Sloan missed a wide-open triple at the buzzer.
FACES IN THE CROWD
Jeff Green and Courtney Lee dropped by summer league for the morning tilt. The duo sat next to Boston's front office staff and new coach Brad Stevens, then invaded the huddle at halftime (sharing a moment with second-year forward Jared Sullinger as well). Despite the changes in Boston this summer, both Green and Lee expressed excitement about what lies ahead for the Celtics. Said Green of Stevens: "I think he’s going to do what he did at Butler: Take that rebuilding word out and we’re just going to be the Celtics again."
The Celtics play two more games at summer league: Wednesday vs. Houston (3 p.m.) and a championship-round game on Friday to be determined by the overall standings.
