As ESPN.com's Marc Stein noted, the Courtney Lee-Jerryd Bayless trade is expected to grow to a three-team swap that should see Oklahoma City Thunder send Ryan Gomes to Boston (and some second-round draft picks will fill out the deal). Gomes, a fan-favorite during his time in Boston before being shipped out as part of the Kevin Garnett trade package, is a nonguaranteed deal and will likely be waived. Boston has an open roster spot, but likely does not desire to pay the seventh-year forward with an already crowded frontcourt. The swap must be finalized by today in order for Gomes (and all others on nonguaranteed deals) to be waived by Tuesday's 5 p.m. deadline in order to allow sufficient time for him to clear waivers. In essence, Oklahoma City is clearing some much-needed cap space by jumping into the deal (Boston will eat the guaranteed portion of his deal).
