Rondo's return? Sooner than later

BOSTON -- Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens said there's still no concrete timeline for Rajon Rondo's return to game action, but said Monday that, "I get the impression, it’s sooner rather than later."

Rondo said last week in San Francisco that he plans to return before the All-Star break. A report surfaced soon after suggesting he was targeting Friday's visit from the rival Los Angeles Lakers as a potential return (though Rondo denied that in the aftermath).

Asked if Rondo could return this week, Stevens said, "I’d be guessing. I think you could say possibly. It wouldn’t be anything where I would be speaking with certainty."

One thing is certain: Rondo's return won't be Monday versus the Rockets.

"Not playing tonight. I will speak with certainty," Stevens quipped.

Rondo tore his ACL in late January last year and underwent surgery in mid-February. Both Rondo and the Celtics have been hesitant to offer timelines for his return, suggesting often that they will take it week-by-week and allow Rondo to return whenever he feels comfortable.
