Power rankings: The Hold Steady
By Chris Forsberg
ESPN IllustrationDespite Saturday's stumble in the nation's capital, the Boston Celtics hold firm at No. 2 in ESPN.com's weekly NBA power rankings, sitting a spot behind the San Antonio Spurs.
Writes curator Marc Stein: "A second straight road L -- at lowly Washington even with KG back -- generated not-so-surprising rumbles that the C's still dream of luring Sheed out of retirement ... then swiping Rip Hamilton from Detroit via buyout."
The Celtics have tumbled down to No. 6 in John Hollinger's daily computerized power rankings, sitting behind the Magic, Lakers, Heat, Hornets, and Spurs. A weak strength of schedule, and a 7-3 record in its last 10 games, isn't helping Boston's cause.
Over at NBA.com's power rankings, the Celtics also sit tight at No. 2. Writes curator John Schuhmann, "Of the Celtics' 10 losses, four, including Saturday's in Washington, have come against the bottom five teams in the East. They play just one of those (Cleveland on Tuesday) over the next three weeks, but also play the Lakers twice, the Mavs, Magic and Heat in that span."
