Celtics center Kevin Garnett finished fifth in the voting for Defensive Player of the Year.

Garnett earned 26 points with 2 first-place votes, 9 second-place votes, and 7 third-place votes. New York's Tyson Chandler won the award with 311 points (45 first-place votes), while Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka finished second at 294 points (41 first-place votes). Orlando's Dwight Howard (186 points) and Miami's LeBron James (112 points) joined Garnett in rounding out the top 5.

Celtics second-year guard Avery Bradley earned two third-place votes to finish tied for 14th place.

Garnett won the Defensive Player of the Year award during his first season in Boston in 2007-08. After moving to the center position in the second half of the year, Garnett played so well (atoning for early season struggles) that it seemed like he might garner more votes for Player of the Year (which makes it a bit surprising to see him slip to fifth and appearing on only 18 of the 121 ballots cast by sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada).

Celtics coach Doc Rivers finished fifth in the voting for Coach of the Year on Tuesday.
