Stiemsma gets All-Rookie vote
By Chris Forsberg
Celtics first-year center Greg Stiemsma earned a single vote in balloting for the NBA's All-Rookie teams.
The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first-team votes and one for second-team votes.
In total, only 21 players earned votes. Considering Stiemsma went undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2008 and toiled both overseas and in the D-League before breaking through with Boston this season, speaks volumes about his impact on the 2012 Celtics.
Stiemsma emerged as a key frontcourt reserve by the end of the regular season (and had his best game of the playoffs in a Game 5 win over the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night). Despite battling multiple injuries for most of the year, Stiemsma averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks over 13.9 minutes per game in 55 appearances. Of those that qualified, Stiemsma finished second in the NBA in blocks per 48 minutes (5.33 per contest), behind only Oklahoma City swat machine Serge Ibaka (6.46).
