Sullinger's latest flagrant upheld

By Chris Forsberg

The NBA upheld the latest flagrant foul assessed to Boston Celtics center Jared Sullinger, leaving him on the cusp of a one-game suspension for his next transgression.

Sullinger was tagged with three flagrant-1 fouls during two losses against the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers. The league downgraded the first of those infractions -- a hard foul on J.J. Hickson in transition -- but upheld both an elbow to the head of Kenneth Faried on Tuesday and contact to the head of Blake Griffin on Wednesday.

That leaves Sullinger with a league-high five flagrant fouls. With his next upheld flagrant, he'll receive a mandatory one-game ban.

The league defines a flagrant-1 foul as "unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent." Sullinger argued that he tried to pull off Griffin while defending a baseline drive on Wednesday, but the recent rash of flagrants called against him likely didn't aid his cause upon review.
