Celtics coach Doc Rivers often stresses that he pays little attention to the Western Conference because his focus has to be on getting out of the East, but he did chime in Monday morning after the rival Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D'Antoni as their new head coach.

"He’s a hell of a coach, a good fit," Rivers said from the team's shootaround in Chicago. "I think it’s a terrific fit... It's not my team, I could care less, but I don't how anyone could scoff at Mike D’Antoni being the head coach. He’s a hell of a coach."

The Lakers fired coach Mike Brown just five games into the 2012-13 season. While many expected Phil Jackson to return, D'Antoni agreed to a four-year deal late Sunday night. Rivers twice faced Jackson in the NBA Finals, the Celtics beating the Lakers in 2008, but Los Angeles prevailing in the rematch two years later.
