The University of Massachusetts will hold a press conference to introduce Mark Whipple as its new football head coach on Tuesday at 11 a.m., the school announced.

Whipple, 56, returns to UMass for his second stint as the program's head coach. He first served as head coach from 1998-2003 with a record of 49-26 in Amherst. His stay was highlighted by an NCAA I-AA national championship in his first year as coach in 1998.

Whipple replaces Charley Molnar, who was fired last month. Under Molnar, UMass went 2-22 in its first two seasons at the FBS level.

Whipple last worked as the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach in 2011-12. He left UMass in 2003 for a position with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also coached with the Philadelphia Eagles and was offensive coordinator at the University of Miami.
