BC Eagle Andy Gallik has been named to the initial watch list for the 2014 Rimington Trophy, awarded each year to the nation’s top center.
The 6-foot-3, 299-pound Gallik is one of 64 on the initial watch list, which was released Monday.
Gallik was the starting center the past two seasons and a key piece of the offensive line that paved the way for Andre Williams’ 2,177-yard, Heisman-finalist season in 2013.
A sociology major from Evergreen Park, Ill., Gallik is the fifth BC center to be named to the Rimington Trophy watch list (see table).
Gallik is one of three returning starters on the BC offensive line, along with guards Bobby Vardaro and Harris Williams. The Eagles will have to replace bookend tackles Matt Patchan and Ian White, with Florida transfer Ian Silberman likely to take one of the spots.
BC opens the 2014 season on Aug. 30 at Gillette Stadium against UMass.
