BC's Fletcher lands Senior Bowl spot

By Jack McCluskey

Boston College cornerback Donnie Fletcher will represent the school one more time. Fletcher, a cocaptain for the Eagles in 2011, has accepted an invitation to play for the North team in the 2012 Senior Bowl, the event announced on Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder had 35 tackles, five pass breakups and two interceptions in his final season in Chestnut Hill. He dealt with a back injury in training camp and missed the team’s opener against Northwestern.

In four seasons at BC, Fletcher totaled 180 tackles and 11 interceptions.

“We’re excited to see Donnie perform in front of the NFL’s top decision-makers here at the Senior Bowl,” Steve Hale, the game’s president and CEO, said in a release. “He’s certainly earned this opportunity and we’re confident he’ll make the most of it.”

According to Fletcher’s Scouts Inc. player evaluation, he is the 16th ranked cornerback in this year’s NFL draft, grading out to a 61 rating. That puts him in the “Good Prospect” range on the scouting scale.

Here’s the description of players who grade between 60-69:

The 63rd annual Senior Bowl will be played Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. ET in Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game and practices leading up to the game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
