Harvard PG Curry out with foot injury

By Jack McCluskey

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard is 2-0 to start the season but has already lost two important players to injuries.

The Crimson lost center Kenyatta Smith indefinitely due to a left foot injury suffered in practice before the opener against Holy Cross, and lost point guard Brandyn Curry indefinitely due to a left foot injury that surfaced after the win over the Crusaders.

Crimson coach Tommy Amaker said he didn’t have a timetable for Curry’s return, but that he was hopeful it wouldn’t be too long. Curry is dealing with soreness in the area around his left Achilles.

“He’s out indefinitely,” Amaker said, asked about Curry after his team’s 79-37 win over MIT on Tuesday in the home opener. “We’re day to day and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow.

“He was walking a lot better today than he was yesterday. I think one of the good signs was the doctors and our medical staff didn’t opt to put him in a boot.”

Curry was on the sideline in a suit for the win, alongside Smith. The senior, voted a co-captain in the preseason, had 14 points, 6 assists and 3 steals in 37 minutes in the win over Holy Cross at TD Garden.

Laurent Rivard started in place of Curry, with Steve Moundou-Missi remaining in the starting lineup in place of Smith.

The Crimson’s next game is Friday, when the Howard Bison visit Lavietes Pavilion.
