We've updated our statewide MIAA Top 25 poll this afternoon, and after a few weeks of minimal movement we've been thrown a few curveballs this time around.
Losses by previous Top 15 squads St. John's of Shrewsbury (10), Longmeadow (11) and Andover (13) has paved the way for Springfield Putnam to make its debut in the Top 10 for the first time the history of this poll. The Beavers, after another blistering performance by running back Melquawn Pinkney (297 rushing yards, 5 TD, in a win over Springfield Cathedral), find themselves at No. 10 this week.
Xaverian drops one spot to No. 6 following its 42-21 loss to Everett, while Bridgewater-Raynham hops climbs to its highest ranking if the season at No. 5. Interestingly enough, the two will face off on Saturday at the Hawk Bowl.
Springfield Central -- a preseason Top 20 that stumbled out of the gates -- jumps back into the poll at No. 18 following the Golden Eagles' dramatic 21-20 win over Longmeadow that saw the Lancers snap their 52-game AA League win streak. Lowell (20), Billerica (23) and Minnechaug (24) all make their debuts in the poll this week.
