Is it too early to start chalking up mocks in anticipation of this June's MLB Draft?
When it involves both local talent and a local team, the answer is no. Today, one website is projecting Mansfield native and Buckingham, Browne & Nichols senior Rhett Wiseman as a late first-rounder for June's draft.
That seems to coincide with the interest that has continued to build since last spring. Drawing praise for his speed, power potential and gap-to-gap coverage, 22 major league teams have visited Wiseman so far in his Mansfield home, according to his father Mike. Within that, seven have showed up the training facility at RBI Academy to film his hitting routine. Wiseman will also be flying out to Arizona this week to work out privately for the Kansas City Royals, Mike says.
Wiseman is also ranked as the No. 8 overall outfielding prospect on the site.
