The Under Armour Northeast 7v7 Tournament has two Massachusetts Regional events this weekend. On Saturday July 21st, Bishop Fenwick High school in Peabody is hosting the East Regional and on Sunday Franklin High School is hosting the South Regional. Both 32-team tournaments begin with pool at 10am and the playoffs begin at 1:30. The finals should start at 3:45. The finalists from both events qualify for the New England Championship at Gillette Stadium on July 25th.
This is the 9th year of the tournament and the biggest with 88 different teams from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont competing for the New England Championship. Under Armour is the title sponsor and provides two compression shirts and a pair of shorts to 20 players on each team.
The New England Championship will feature 10 teams on the turf at Gillette Stadium. Six teams will automatically qualify and four will be selected as "wild cards". Teams will play four games in pool play and the top two from each pool will play single elimination for the title. Methuen (MA) and The Pingree School (MA) qualified from the North Regional at Exeter High School on June 30th. Games begin at 4pm and will finish under the lights before 9pm. This is the second year Gillette has hosted the tournament.
