Former Malden Catholic hockey standout Mike Vecchione has committed to Union College for the 2013-14 season.

A former ESPN Boston All-State first-team selection, Vecchione previously had a commitment in place with UNH, but withdrew in December, reopening his recruitment.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound winger played last season with Tri-City of the United State Hockey League, posting 31 points in 51 games after leading MC to a Super 8 tournament title in 2010-11.

In an email to ESPN Boston Sunday night, the Saugus native confirmed that he'll return to the Storm for another season before joining coach Rick Bennett's squad.

"After visiting a bunch of schools this year at the Christmas break and this summer, I felt Union was the best fit for me," Vecchione wrote. "[It has] great hockey, great coaches and great academics."
