A few notes about this week's poll:

Boxers uppercut: The big question on everyone's mind was where Brockton (previously No. 22) would land this week after the Boxers' impressive 21-0 shutout of previous No. 2 BC High. We felt Brockton's win was strong enough to secure a Top 10 placement, and this week the Boxers come in at No. 9, behind Nashoba and ahead of Walpole. BC High, meanwhile, dropped 11 spots to No. 13, and will hope to avoid a further slide this week against No. 17 North Attleborough.

Staying pat: Three other teams stayed in the poll at 0-1 -- Leominster (7), Bridgewater-Raynham (12) and Holy Name (24). Of the three, only B-R dropped spots from its preseason poll position, falling four spots. Both Leominster and Holy Name looked impressive enough in losses to Everett and St. John's of Shrewsbury, respectively, that we felt it appropriate to leave them as is.

New faces: Beverly (23) and Minnechaug (25) make their season debuts after dominant showings last weekend. Minnechaug cruised to an all-too-easy 42-14 thrashing of Silver Lake, while Beverly made easy work of Concord-Carlisle in a 34-7 win at Hurd Field.

Dropping out: Preseason No. 23 Springfield Putnam dropped out of the poll following the Beavers' 21-8 loss to intra-city rival Springfield Central, but remain in the "Last 10 Out" and could very quickly return to the polls. Preseason No. 25 Mashpee had by far the most disappointing loss of the weekend, dropping a 22-14 decision to unranked Austin Prep, and is out of the poll altogether.

Outside looking in: The two toughest omissions this week might have been Abington and Andover, who both sit in the "Last 10 Out" this week following strong performances. Abington made easy work of Hanover on Friday night, while Andover made a wild second-half rally to beat cross-town rival North Andover 50-35.

Here's how the poll breaks down this week by league affiliation:

Bay State - 4
AA - 3
Catholic Conference - 3
Hockomock - 3
Central Mass. Conference - 2
Old Colony - 2
Big Three - 1
Middlesex - 1
Mid-Wach A - 1
Mid-Wach B - 1
NEC/CAL - 1
Patriot - 1
Southern Worcester County - 1
