MIAA field hockey brackets released

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association field hockey playoff brackets are now posted on its website.

Taking a quick look around the state:

  • In the North region, Acton-Boxborough took the No. 1 seed over Andover in Division I. Both teams earned perfect 18-0-0 records during the regular season. Watertown took the top spot in D-II North.

  • Walpole earned the top seed in Division II South after the Porkers enjoyed a clean regular season slate. Bishop Stang has a first-round bye after taking the No. 1 seed in Division II South.

  • Quabbin (14-2-2) and Uxbridge (16-2-2) are the No. 1 seeds in the Central Division I and II fields, respectively.

  • Longmeadow (17-1-0) was granted the top seed in Division I West over South Hadley (17-0-1). Although South Hadley beat Longmeadow earlier in the season, strength of schedule served as the prime mitigating factor for the swap at the top. Longmeadow has won six of the last eight Western titles. South Hadley now competes at the Division I level in field hockey because it has male players on its team. In Division II, Mohawk takes the top seed over defending sectional champion Smith Academy.
