We updated our statewide MIAA Top 25 baseball poll this afternoon. To view it, CLICK HERE.

The next poll update will be Monday, May 20.

A few notes and observations about this week's poll:

St. John's Prep remains No. 1, but Catholic Conference sizzles: For the fourth consecutive week, St. John's Prep holds down the top spot in the poll, having reeled off 14 straight wins since its season-opening loss to archrival Xaverian. The Eagles have a big week ahead of them, starting this afternoon with a visit from No. 2 BC High; Prep won the first meeting last month, 6-5.

St. John's of Shrewsbury (3), Walpole (4) and Peabody (5) round out the top five.

BC High is the only other Catholic Conference school represented in the poll this week. Just two weeks after seeing all five of its member schools ranked in our poll for the first time in two years, only Prep and BC remain while the rest of the conference has skidded a bit. Malden Catholic has slowly simmered since its 6-1 start to the season, losing six of its last seven contests. Catholic Memorial has climbed to a respectable 7-6, but losses to Prep (8-1) and MC (5-4, 9 inn.) are of concern. Meanwhile, defending D1 state champion Xaverian is in danger of losing a playoff bid at 6-8. All three currently sit in our "Last 10 out".

Nauset makes debut, on verge of history: Nauset makes a first-ever appearance in our poll this week, after sweeping Plymouth North last Saturday in a doubleheader, the program's first ever win over the Plymouth juggernaut under coach Lou Elia. The Warriors have never won an Atlantic Coast League title in school history, but a win this afternoon against Falmouth, their final league game, would assure them a share of the ACL title.

Everett (24) and Medfield (25) also debut this week, while Springfield Cathedral (18), Beverly (22) and Braintree (23) all make returns.

Here's how the poll breaks down this week by league affiliation:

Bay State - 3
Northeastern - 3
Atlantic Coast - 2
Catholic Conference - 2
Southern Worcester County - 2
Valley League - 2
Cape Ann - 1
