Before this weekend's lacrosse game between No. 2 Duxbury and No. 3 St. John's Prep, Dragons senior Marshall McCarthy was awarded with a commemorative jersey, as our ESPN Boston High Schools Football Defensive Player of the Year for the 2012 season.

The Duxbury inside linebacker led the team in tackles with 116 -- 79 of which were solo tackles -- and sacks with 12.5. While averaging nearly 10 tackles per game, he also forced two fumbles and collected an interception.

McCarthy, who is also a starting defender for the defending state champion Dragons lacrosse team, will continue his football career at Stonehill College next year.
