New Bedford regains top spot in boys' soccer

10/8/2013

New Bedford takes over the top spot again in our MIAA boys' soccer Top 20 poll this week, after Ludlow was stunned by Westborough last week.

Somerville moves up into the No. 2 spot (or, more appropriately, No. 1A), as it continues unbeaten as well. Last year's defending state champs are still undefeated as well and hold on to the No. 3 spot.

The biggest moves were the drop of Medway from No. 11 to 19 after a defeat to unranked (but unbeaten) Norton and draw against Holliston. The Mustangs are still a solid team and the drop was more about the strength of the teams around them than there own weaknesses.

Oliver Ames also dropped eight spots, from No. 12 to 20, after four straight draws. The Tigers have looked good in all four games, but have struggled to finish against the strong defenses in the Hockomock League.

Brockton dropped out of the rankings after debuting at no. 20. The Boxers were crushed 7-2 at Xaverian and were replaced by Wilmington (at no. 18), which has won 11 games in a row and picked up a win against no. 7 St. John's Prep.
