Lexington's Tighe to step down

11/15/2010

Lexington head coach Bill Tighe, the nation's oldest active high school football coach at 86, officially announced last night that he will be stepping down as head football coach after the Minutemen's Thanksgiving day matchup with Burlington.

Tighe began his head coaching career at Wakefield in 1957, and arrived in Lexington in 1975 after a stint at Malden. He is 262-238-13 headed into Thanksgiving.

Last August, in an interview with ESPNBoston's Brendan Hall, Tighe suggested, ""This could be the year. [Then again], I say that every year. But who knows? I'm just going to take it one game at a time."

More details to come later today.
