Malden Catholic regained the top spot in this week's edition of the ESPN Boston MIAA boys' hockey Top 25 poll.

Catholic Conference implications: Aside from interrupting BC High's bid at an unbeaten regular season, MC's win over the Eagles on Saturday delayed BC High's designs on the Catholic Conference -- if not just for a couple of days. The Lancers' win sets up a crucial league game Wednesday night between archrivals BC High and Catholic Memorial, with the Eagles able to close out the Conference championship with a win.

Separation week: With just a week-and-a-half remaining in the regular season, teams are trying to make last-minute additions to their Super 8 resume.

The team making its final push last week was St. John's Prep, which has yet to qualify for the state tournament. However, the Eagles (7-8-1) might have also reinserted themselves into the Super 8 conversation with a win against Arlington Catholic. Their Super 8 (ie their playoff hopes) will be largely determined this week with a pair of Top 25 bouts with St. John's (Shrewsbury) and Springfield Cathedral.
