Prep's Yish commits to Boston College

February, 14, 2014
St. John's Prep head baseball coach Dan Letarte told this morning that sophomore outfielder/catcher Jacob Yish has verbally committed to Boston College.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Yish, a Byfield resident, did not play an inning for the Eagles' varsity, which reached the MIAA Division 1 North Final last season, though he practiced with the varsity regularly. But with above-average speed on the base path and a big, open-stance swing that generates a lot of power, the ceiling is projected high.

"Jacob has the three tools -- he can run very well, hit for power and average, and has a great arm," Letarte said. "BC is getting a great student-athlete."

When Yish arrives in Chestnut Hill, he projects to fit in the outfield.
