Central Catholic's Brown commits to Merrimack

March, 18, 2014
Central Catholic head coach Chuck Adamopoulos told members of the Boston area media this afternoon that senior two-way lineman Joe Brown has verbally committed to Merrimack College for the 2014 season.

The 6-foot-1, 292-pound Brown was one of two Raiders named to ESPN Boston's annual All-State Team after helping lead them to the MIAA Division 1 state championship, the program's first title in 15 seasons. As a team, the Raiders ran for over 2,500 yards with Brown leading the way at guard.

Brown was considering several options around the Northeast-10 Conference as well as Division 3 schools, but Merrimack was his top choice.

"He kinda decided early on that if it worked out, Merrimack would be the place," Adamopoulos said. "He wanted to play for that school, in that league. If that didn’t work out financially, we were going to look at Plymouth State or some other state schools. Merrimack was the place that really felt good for him. Everything worked out in our end. I think it's a good matchup for him."

According to Adamopoulos, the Warriors' coaching staff hasn't decided which side of the ball Brown will fit. He joins fellow Central Catholic teammate Cody Demers, MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference this past season, in the Warriors' incoming recruiting class.
