Updated Top 25 baseball poll

4/29/2014

We updated our statewide MIAA Top 25 baseball poll last night. To view it, CLICK HERE.

The next poll update will be on Monday, May 5.

A few notes and observations about this week's poll:

Masconomet, West Side making splashes: The biggest jump this week is Masconomet, which vaults 11 spots up to No. 9 in the poll after a torrid first half of the season. Through their first nine games of the season they have plated 95 runs while allowing just 18. Further down the poll, West Springfield jumps up eight spots to No. 14 after a surprise first half of the season, which includes victories over Springfield Cathedral, Agawam, Chicopee and Springfield Central.

Top remains unchanged: Bridgewater-Raynham continues to hold on to its top billing as the No. 1 team in the land, after mercy-ruling New Bedford and Silver Lake in succession to win the Brad Martin Tourament last week in Plymouth. Rounding out the top five are Newton North (2), Peabody (3), St. John's Prep (4) and Boston College High (5).

Hock two-fer: Two teams from the Hockomock League make season debuts this week. Kelly-Rex divison leader North Attleborough makes its first appearance in the poll in three years, at No. 23, while Davenport division leader Oliver Ames comes in at No. 25. East Bridgewater also makes its season debut at No. 22, its first appearance on the poll in two years, while Westfield returns at No. 24 after a two-week hiatus.
