Announcing ESPN Boston Mr. Baseball Finalists

On Wednesday, June 18, we will announce the recipient of our fourth annual "Mr. Baseball" award, given annually to the top overall player in Massachusetts.

Tonight, we have named 10 finalists for the award. They are as follows:

Zac Correll, Sr. RHP, Case

The 6-foot-5 San Jacinto (Texas) commit was been one of the most dominant fireballers on the South Coast, registering an 8-2 record with a 0.54 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 64 innings -- including a 14-K shutout of Ashland in the D3 South tournament.

Isan Diaz, Sr. SS, Springfield Central

One of the most naturally-gifted infielders in New England, the Vanderbilt commit put on a show in both the field and at the plate (.492/.625/.898, 4 HR, 14 RBI) for the Golden Eagles. Diaz, a 2013 ESPN Boston All-State selection, is expected to be one of the first local high school prospects taken in the MLB Draft this weekend.

Joe Freiday, Sr. C, Bridgewater-Raynham

The Virginia Tech-bound Freiday, this year's Gatorade Player of the Year for Massachusetts, has been dominant at the plate for the Trojans. So far he is hitting .457/.620/.789 with with seven home runs and 36 RBI.

Jackson Gillis, Soph. LHP, Wilmington

One of New England's top 2016 pitching prospects, Gillis recorded two no-hitters this season and was named MVP of the Middlesex League's Freedom Division. He went 7-2 with 102 strikeouts in 57.1 innings, holding opponents to a .117 batting average.

Joe Klingensmith, Sr. RHP/1B, Masconomet

The UMass commit has been a rock at the plate and on the mound for the Chieftains, striking out 79 batters in 51.1 innings and allowing just five runs for a 0.68 ERA, .877 WHIP, and 9-0 record. He also added four home runs and 17 RBI at the plate.

Chris Murphy, Sr. RHP, Billerica

The Maine commit was named MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference's second division after posting a 1.24 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. He also hit two home runs and 17 RBI at the plate.

Andrew Noviello, Jr. RHP/SS, Bridgewater-Raynham

Off to a torrid pace in the Super 8 tournament (1.000/1.000/3.000), the Maine commit has been one of the most dominant two-way stars in Massachusetts. At the plate, he is hitting .465/.574/.746 with 33 RBI and three home runs. On the mound, he is 5-0 with 67 strikeouts in 43 innings and a 1.29 ERA, holding opponents to a .223 average, while also recording three saves.

Neil O'Connor, Sr. RHP/INF, Leominster

The University of New Hampshire football commit dominated both ways for the Blue Devils, who are in the D1 Central Final this weekend. He's batting .476 with a .568 on base percentage, 16 RBI, four home runs, 27 runs and 13 stolen bases. On the mound, he is 8-1 with a 0.86 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, striking out 80 batters and also recording a save.

Jack Riley, Sr. LHP/1B, St. Peter-Marian

Another two-way force, the UConn commit is batting .429/.535/.743 heading into this weekend's D1 Central Semifinals, with 20 RBI. On the mound, he has 74 strikeouts in 43.1 innings, with a 0.65 ERA.

Evan Roberts, Sr. LHP, St. John’s Prep

The Catholic Conference MVP and Davidson commit has been one of the most efficient pitchers in the state this season. The crafty lefty finished the season 8-2 with 50 strikeouts in 59.2 innings, with a 1.17 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He also recorded a save.
