Player Diary: Obum Obukwelu

Four of the state's most prolific players will be contributing their diary entries to ESPNBoston.com on a regular basis this season. Boston College High's Obum Obukwelu checks in today to introduce himself.

Obum ObukweluHello everybody. My name is Obumneme Obukwelu, most commonly known as "Obum", and I am a senior defensive lineman at Boston College High School. As far as my background goes, I'm of Nigerian descent and I am also a long-time resident of the city of Brockton, both of which I take a great deal of pride in. I come from what most would call a big family, with other four brothers, me being the middle child. Last but not least, I'm proud to have two hard working parents who have done a great job at helping their sons remain focused in today's world.

My senior season is something I've been waiting forever, since I started playing football as a freshman. That being said, using the word "excited" to describe how I feel is indeed an understatement. As a captain, my main goal is to help my team reach its full potential, with recapturing the Catholic Conference title in mind. This season is definitely going to be a test for us, as we'll be playing a tough schedule, taking on some of the state's best teams. After a 6-4 season, our team is just hungry, and the focus level among the players is tremendous. After a few months of workouts and non-contact camps, I'm really looking forward to throwing the pads on and getting back to business.
