St. John's Light commits to Fordham

St. John's of Shrewsbury senior quarterback Dan Light has verbally committed to Fordham University for the fall of 2011, following a visit to the Bronx, N.Y. campus this weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Light was a two-year starter for the two-time Division 1 Central Mass Super Bowl champion Pioneers. This season, his first year under center after playing tight end last year for the Pioneers, he spearheaded one of the state’s most prolific offenses with precision, as the 12-1 Pioneers rolled to their second straight Division 1 Central Mass Super Bowl title, averaged 38.5 points per game, and finished ranked No. 3 in ESPNBoston's statewide MIAA football poll. He threw for 2,171 yards and 32 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, and on the ground he added 1,131 yards and 16 more scores.

Light was also named to ESPNBoston.com's inaugural MIAA All-State Team last month. When he arrives at Fordham next season, he is expected to spell Griffin Murphy, who quarterbacked the Pioneers' 2009 Super Bowl champion squad.
