Milton's Sophie Panarese has been lauded by the United States Tennis Association New England. Panarese, it was announced this week, has been selected as USTA New England’s winner of the 2010 William Hoblitzelle award, presented to the USTA New England Girls 18-and-under player who best demonstrated a superior blend of sportsmanship and leadership on and off the court.

Panarese, a senior at Milton Academy, will attend Georgetown University in the fall, where she will be a member of the women's tennis team.

Panarese is winding down a stellar USTA junior career that included a run of three consecutive titles at the New England Clay Court Championships. She is currently the fifth-ranked 18-year-old in New England, according to USTA rankings.

She will be honored at USTA New England’s annual award ceremony, which takes place next month in Marlborough.
