Lawrence Academy’s Tyler Beede, who was profiled this morning by Brendan Hall, was selected in the first round (No. 21 overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays. Beede is from Auburn, Mass.
Here’s analysis of the pick from ESPN.com’s Jason Churchill:
The Blue Jays have extra picks but went with some upside with Beede, who could be a tough sign due to a strong commitment to Vanderbilt. He sits in the low-90s and improved his breaking ball this season, which now profiles as an above-average pitch in time. Toronto took rightyAaron Sanchez last year and now add Beede to their crop of young pitchers. It appears Toronto drafted for value here as many of the top college arms are already off the board, except for Kentucky's Alex Meyer.
More to come on Beede later.
