Fenwick's Mike Clifford transferring back home

Merrimack College officials have confirmed that former Bishop Fenwick standout Mike Clifford has transferred into the school from Division 1 University of Buffalo.

Because Clifford is moving down a division, he will be able to play immediately. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Warriors.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Danvers native overcame a broken leg injury before the season to put in a monster senior campaign for Fenwick in the 2008-09 season. He averaged 26.3 points and 18.5 rebounds as the Crusaders went 20-3 and advanced to the Division 3 North finals, where they lost to eventual state champion Watertown.

Clifford ended his career at Fenwick as the only player in school history to record both 1,000 points and rebounds, finishing with 1,707 and 1,250, respectively.

For some perspective, here's what the folks at Scouts Inc. were saying about Clifford back in the summer of 2008:

June, 2008: Clifford hits the glass on both ends hard and plays with a high level of intensity. Once he receives the ball in the post, he has a very solid repertoire of post moves to use for shots. Clifford utilizes counter moves in the post very well. He has range on his jumper and can slip picks for jumpers in the 15-18 feet range. Clifford has decent athleticism but seems to run into problems when defended by active, athletic big men.
