New Englanders running in Nike XC Nationals
Two local New England cross-country runners will be in tomorrow's Nike Cross Nationals, at Portland Meadows in Portland, Ore. Among the boys and girls individual fields will be Mike Marsella of Chariho (R.I.) and Elle Purrier of Richford (Vt.), who were both New England champions earlier this fall, as well as Lexington's Nat Adams.
In the team fields, three local New England teams will be running: Hamilton-Wenham girls, Champlain Valley Union (Vt.) girls, and Pembroke boys.
Nike Cross Nationals is comprised of eight Regional Qualifying meets and the NXN National Finals in Portland, Oregon. Following in the tradition of European cross country meets, the Nationals event features a multiple loop race course with man-made obstacles built on the inside of the horse race track at Portland Meadows.
A live webcast feed of the event will run onnikecrossnationals.com and on Facebook. Fields of 22 seven-person teams and an additional 45 individuals (male and female) will lay it all on the line in the quest for the coveted Winged Goddess of Victory statue.
