“I just sent my SATs to the [NCAA] Clearinghouse last weekend,” Lucas said. “There shouldn't be a problem, and I'll commit at that point. They want me to be a mid-year guy.”
Lucas had 12 Division I offers coming out of high school, but didn't qualify academically. He received scholarship offers from Akron, Massachusetts, Old Dominion and Temple following a semester at Worcester (Mass.) Academy, a program that had several Division I recruits on its roster last season.
Although he also played running back in high school and prep school, Lucas said he's being recruited to play defensive back.
“Either safety or corner,” he said. “Temple said I could play safety because they need safeties who can cover.”
Lucas has taken official visits to Temple and Old Dominion. He said he's also still talking with Massachusetts, which will move from the FCS ranks to the Mid-American Conference next season.
Rutgers was also showing interest in Lucas, but he said an offer from Rutgers is unlikely.
“They told me they have three kids in front of me,” he said. “I went down there [Temple] and I liked it. It's a very nice campus, I like the coaches and the program is on the rise.
“We're just waiting to see what the [NCAA] Clearinghouse says. If it works out that's probably where I'll be.”
