Lynn English's Bowden commits to Vandy
Lynn English senior lefthander Ben Bowden announced this afternoon on his Twitter account that he has verbally committed to Vanderbilt University, continuing the growing pipeline of the Bay State's top arms to the SEC powerhouse.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Bowden was named to the "Starting Rotation" of ESPN Boston's annual MIAA All-State Team following a tremendous junior season, which included a perfect game and a stunner over Peabody in the Division 1 North tournament. He joins Peabody senior righty Pat Ruotolo (UConn) and Lynn Classical junior catcher Kyle Devin (Stony Brook) among the high-profile Northeastern Conference athletes to commit to Division 1 baseball programs this summer.
On the mound Bowden had six wins, with 82 strikeouts in 51.2 innings for a 2.19 ERA. At the plate, he batted .394 with 21 RBI, two home runs and nine extra-base hits, and also drew 17 walks.
Bowden will join locals Tyler Beede (Lawrence Academy), Adam Ravenelle (Lincoln-Sudbury), Kevin Ziomek (Amherst), Rhett Wiseman (BB&N) and Pat Delano (Braintree) on the Commodores' pitching staff when he arrives in Nashville next fall. All four were drafted by Major League teams coming out of high school.
