Andover newest entrant to Top 25 poll

By Brendan Hall

We updated our statewide MIAA Top 25 poll for Week 4 of the high school season, this morning. To view the poll, CLICK HERE.

A few notes and observations:

Boxers deliver uppercut: The biggest shakeup this week involves the two teams that squared off last Friday at Marciano Stadium. A week ago, Brockton dropped six spots to No. 15 following a 12-0 shutout loss to Reading. But this week, the Boxers jump up eight spots to No. 7 after a 22-14 win over Xaverian. With its loss to the Boxers, Xaverian falls eight spots to No. 11.

Andover debuts: Following its 34-0 shutout of Methuen, Andover is the lone squad making a debut this week in the poll. The Golden Warriors enter the poll at No. 25 in place of previous occupant Minnechaug, which survived Chicopee in a 27-26 thriller. How long Andover remains in the poll will be anyone's guess, however, as the Golden Warriors face No. 11 Xaverian this Friday.

Blue Devils, Red Raiders, Rockets creeping up: Leominster sneaks into the Top 5 this week, at No. 5, following a 25-8 win over Milford, while Reading jumps four spots up to No. 6. Meanwhile Barnstable jumps to No. 3 with Xaverian's loss, and the timing is unique. The last time an Old Colony League team was at No. 3, of course, was last November, when the previously-unranked Red Raiders shocked No. 3 Bridgewater-Raynham in overtime to clinch a playoff berth for the first time in 10 seasons. This week, Barnstable heads to Everett Memorial Stadium for a clash with No. 1 Everett.
