BC High, CM start new Thanksgiving tradition
Catholic Conference rivals Catholic Memorial and BC High have competed in an annual Thanksgiving day football game since 1962.
Catholic Memorial seniors Ed DeLuca, Ryan Reid, Matt McCarthy and Dylan Ryan made the 10-mile trek from West Roxbury to Dorchester to deliver the game ball.
But this year, four CM seniors began what they hope will become a new tradition. Ed DeLuca, Ryan Reid, Matt McCarthy and Dylan Ryan relayed a ceremonial game ball from CM's Baker Street campus on Thursday morning to Cotter Field at BC High, a 10-mile trek through six Boston neighborhoods.
When they arrived, an hour before the 10:15 a.m. kickoff, the four seniors handed the game ball at midfield to the varsity football captains, posed for a photo, then joined their classmates in rooting on the Knights.
In the 51st edition of the holiday classt, the Eagles defeated the Knights, 20-14.
