Ricci commits to BC

By Brendan Hall

Lawrence Academy senior offensive guard Max Ricci confirmed this morning that he made a verbal commitment to Boston College last night.

"I really like the coaching staff," Ricci said. "A few years down the road, they'll be competing for a national championship, and I want to be a part of that. Overall, their devotion to helping me becoming a better player, it sounded like a really good fit. The school has a good reputation that if I don't make it to the NFL, my education will get me a perfect job in the Boston area."

On an unofficial visit to Chestnut Hill earlier this month, BC head coach Frank Spaziani asked the 6-foot-4, 335-pound Ricci to make a decision on their scholarship offer by July 31. Ricci told correspondent Roger Brown earlier this week that he was contemplating taking a visit to another school before the deadline, what with interest growing from Nebraska, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Ricci said this morning that it didn't end up happening, saying "I couldn't afford a plane ticket, and I didn't have enough time."

That makes it four Spartans from the incoming senior class to commit to BCS-level schools since wide receiver Marcus Grant committed to Iowa last May. Running back Anthony Knight -- cousin of former BC tailback Derrick Knight -- then committed to North Carolina State, followed by another commitment to Iowa earlier this month from linebacker Mike Orloff.
