Obukwelu switches commitment to Harvard
By Brendan Hall
Boston College High star offensive/defensive lineman Obum Obukwelu has de-committed from UConn and verbally committed to Harvard University tonight, the senior wrote in an email to ESPNBoston tonight.
"I just wanted to let you know that I recently de-committed from UConn, and committed to Harvard University this evening," Obukwelu wrote. "Earlier this week I received my 'likely letter' from Harvard, and after discussing with my family and my head coach Jon Bartlett, I came to the conclusion that this was an opportunity I just could not pass up. At the end of the day, Harvard had exactly what I was looking for, with a balance of top-notch football and world-class academics. Coach (Tim) Murphy was very excited after I made my commitment and I can't wait to join my older brother Nnamdi on the Harvard defensive line."
The Brockton resident is the second Massachusetts recruit to de-commit from the Huskies this fall. Last September, Rivers wideout/safety Taariq Allen de-committed from UConn, and then committed to Nebraska two weeks ago.
