The Needham High School Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Amanda Sheehy has been named the new head coach for the NHS Varsity Girls Basketball Team. Amanda comes to Needham with a strong basketball playing and coaching background and is currentlys a Behavior Therapist in the Newton Public Schools. We are very excited for her to join our staff and to have her start working with our student-athletes.
Coach Sheehy played her high school basketball in New Jersey before accepting a scholarship to play at Assumption College in Worcester. She was named team captain as a Senior at Assumption, where she earned a Degree in History with a concentration in Elementary Education. She received a Masters in Education from the California State University San Marcos and is now working towards s Masters Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis.
Amanda is a passionate coach and a student of the game, who considers herself a teacher first. She values the life lessons that can be taught through participation in athletics and plans to start building a positive and reinforcing environment within the program by getting to the know the student-athletes first as kids and people, before working to begin understanding them as basketball players. She is also extremely active in the sport of basketball, having served as the Assistant Varsity Coach at Newton North High School for the past two years, working as a head and an assistant coach in the Mass Huskies AAU program, coaching MetroWest in Wellesley and working numerous camps and clinics teaching the game.
