BASEBALL Coastal 7, Northeast 3 Despite throwing a 84 mph pitch, John Witkowski (Melrose) and the Northeast gave up five Coastal runs in the first inning, which proved to be much against a deflated Northeast squad allowing Coastal to cruise to a 7-3 victory in the 2013 Bay State Games Summer Games baseball showcase opener.
Coastal lengthened its lead in the fourth inning when infielder Tyler Carey (Raynham) hit a triple that turned into a home run on a Northeast error. Shortstop Alex Perry (North Attleborough) paced a balanced Coastal offense with two RBIs and a run. Ryan Gaydou (Dartmouth) and Dan Southerland (Dartmouth) shared the win from the mound.

Metro made a late push in the final two frames receiving runs from first baseman Ashley Eisnor (Medford) and infielder Paige Hovsepian (Waltham), but lefty Emma Lacasse closed the game from the circle.
