The Needham High girls’ soccer program and head coach Carl Tarabelli will be honored by the American Cancer Society at halftime of the varsity game between the Rockets and Braintree at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Memorial Park.
The program, with combined efforts from the varsity, junior varsity and freshman team, has raised more than $21,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Boston initiative.
In total, 62 Needham student-athletes are involved in the fundraising endeavor. More than 600 sponsors have given one-time donations or pledged to donate per goal or per shutout throughout the season.
Making Strides walks in nearly 300 communities nationwide help to raise $60 million dollars for the American Cancer Society each year to save lives from breast cancer. The dollars raised fund groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat, and cure breast cancer; ensure access to mammograms for women who need them; and provide free resources and support to the one in two newly diagnosed women who turn to the Society for help and support, including transportation and lodging during treatment.
