South Boston's Kenney signs with Towson
By Brendan Hall
Former Matignon offensive lineman and South Boston native Jay Kenney has verbally committed and signed a national letter of intent with Towson University, he wrote in an email tonight to ESPNBoston.com.
Kenney, a 6-foot-5, 280-pounder who did a post-graduate season this fall at Bridgton Academy (Maine), verbally committed to the Tigers during his official visit to the Towson, Md. campus yesterday. He signed his LOI earlier today when he arrived back home.
"(I'm) excited about the program building, brand new facilities and the passion in the coaching staff and athletic department," Kenney wrote in an email to ESPNBoston.com. "I have potential here to play earlier compared to other places, too."
Kenney is the third offensive lineman from the North Bridgton, Maine-based, postgraduate-exclusive prep school to sign with a Division 1 school. Earlier this month, Barnstable's Dalton Gifford signed with UConn, and Hamden, Conn.'s Alex Demarco signed with Wagner.
