BABC players top 'undervalued' list

By ESPNBoston.com

With the first evaluation period of July done, ESPN's Mike LaPlante checks in today with his thoughts on some of the more underrated players he watched over the last two weeks.

Topping that list were two BABC forwards and incoming seniors, Tilton (N.H.)'s Georges Niang and King Philip's Jake Layman.

Georges Niang (Methuen, Mass./The Tilton School)
2012, PF, 6-7, 230 pounds | AAU Team: BABC
Committed: Iowa State
Possibly the biggest steal so far in the 2012 class is the Iowa State commit from the Boston area. He came into the summer ranked outside the Top 100 and proceeded to consistently outplay higher-profile opponents. Although his game may not be flashy, he produces in both scoring and rebounding and has been the go-to horse many times even though he is playing next an All-American in Nerlens Noel. Iowa State did an outstanding job of evaluating the power forward and closing the deal before his stock soared through the roof.

Jake Layman (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Reg)
2012, 6-8, 195 pounds | AAU Team: BABC
The secret is out on Mr. Efficiency Jake Layman and the competition to secure the services of this skilled combo forward is heating up quickly. He is a dangerous weapon at the point of BABC's press, and schools from the ACC/Big East/SEC are jockeying for position. Maryland is considered the frontrunner at the moment.
