King Philip's Jake Layman cuts it to five
By Brendan Hall
King Philip senior forward Jake Layman has narrowed his list of schools down to five and will begin taking official visits to each school next month, his mother Claire told ESPNBoston.com this afternoon.
Maryland, whom some have viewed as the favorite, has made the cut, and will be his first visit over Labor Day weekend. Syracuse, Florida, Louisville and Wake Forest will be the other schools he will visit.
The 6-foot-8 Layman is the No. 54 overall player in the Class of 2012, the No. 11 small forward, and the state's top prospect. Last March, he was named to the starting five of ESPNBoston's inaugural MIAA All-State Team, after leading the Warriors on a surprise run to the Division 2 South finals and averaging 24.6 points, 13.6 rebounds, 4.6 blocks, 3.1 assists and 2.3 steals. He was also named the Hockomock League's Most Valuable Player.
